Halle, born Halle Bailey on March 27, 2000, in Atlanta, emerged as a singer, songwriter, and actress whose profile expanded rapidly toward the end of the 2010s through her role as one half of the R&B sister act Chloe x Halle. Disney cast her in the title role of its 2023 live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, where she also contributed vocals to the accompanying soundtrack; that same year she issued her debut solo release, the Grammy-nominated single “Angel.”

From the age of three she appeared in commercials and on television, gaining early exposure that soon extended to music when she and her older sister Chloe Bailey began studying voice and guitar together. At eleven the siblings started posting covers online, their rendition of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” becoming the first to attract widespread attention. Beyoncé signed the pair to her Parkwood Entertainment imprint in 2016, guiding their development and featuring them on the visual album Lemonade. In the years that followed, Chloe x Halle collected multiple honors, among them Grammy nominations for their 2018 debut album, a performance at the 2019 Super Bowl, and opening slots on the joint tour by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Halle simultaneously pursued screen work and landed the lead in Disney’s 2023 reimagining of the 1989 animated feature The Little Mermaid. The project’s soundtrack served as her introduction as a solo vocalist, after which she unveiled the official single “Angel.” Critics praised the dynamic R&B ballad, which earned a nomination for Best R&B Song at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
