Hanzel Und Gretyl, though headquartered in New York, deliver their trance and industrial material chiefly in German. Emerging from the remains of several prior industrial outfits in the Big Apple, the ensemble—comprising Lupia on programming and guitar, vocalist Vas Kallas, bassist Ginger Bread, and drummer Pat Wolff—first surfaced via a track on the compilation COP International Chaos. Energy Records in New York took notice and offered the group a contract, resulting in the release of their debut album Ausgeflippt toward the close of 1995. Subsequent joint appearances with Marilyn Manson on multiple bills, combined with nationwide touring, preceded the quartet’s follow-up effort, the 1997 album Transmissions from Uranus.
