Hevisaurus

High atop an enchanted peak, a circle of spell-casting witches summoned bolts from the sky that unearthed five metallic eggs, from which emerged ancient reptilian beings driven by an urge to rock. That mythic episode marks the origin of HeviSaurus. Five Finnish parents established the project in 2009 to supply their own offspring with age-appropriate power metal, and the group quickly celebrated milk and cookies, burping, furry animals, and the value of education, winning fervent support from both its young listeners and their guardians. In the studio the lineup features Herra Hevisaurus on vocals as a tyrannosaurus, Milli Pilli on keyboards as a triceratops, Komppi Momppi on drums as an apatosaurus, Riffi Raffi on guitar as a dragon, and Muffi Puffi on bass as a stegosaurus, although the musicians who appear in live settings change from show to show. Following the 2009 debut album Jurahevin Kuninkaat ("Kings of Jurassic Metal"), the band issued a string of increasingly successful records that reached a commercial summit in 2012 with the Finnish number-one Kadonneen Louhikaarmeen Arvoitus. Although the act was signed to Sony Music Finland, a 2011 contractual disagreement briefly prompted the same human members to record under the rival name SauruXet, which produced only the album Saurusplaneetta. In Argentina a localized franchise called Heavysaurios performs the same material in Spanish. The group captured both the Finnish and Argentinian equivalents of a Grammy in the Best Children’s Music category, launched amusement parks, and appeared in video games as well as a feature-length film. Its sixth release, Vihrea Vallankumous, arrived in 2013 and climbed into the Finnish Top Ten. In 2015 the band delivered Soittakaa Juranoid!, which contained the single “Juranoid.” That same year awareness spread across the United States and introduced HeviSaurus to fresh listeners. The five-piece returned in 2017 with Mikä Minusta Tulee Isona? ("What Will I Be When I Grow Up?").
