San Antonio native Jeff DeCuir has long pursued multiple musical avenues, stretching from his early punk involvements to the ongoing sonic explorations of Crevice, the collective under his direction. This range of activity naturally led him to launch Hyperbubble, a project pairing him on keyboards with his wife Jessica, who handles vocals and keyboards and who, like her husband, previously played in the lively AM retro-pop outfit Pink Filth. The band’s sound centers squarely on the synth-pop era, relying on fully electronic instrumentation from the drum patterns upward while the vocals occasionally receive Vocoder processing. Hyperbubble began its official existence in 2000 via a hometown concert and went on to develop a catalog of original material—unlike Pink Filth’s emphasis on covers—while also supplying remixes for similarly inclined acts such as Mission Giant. Four years after formation, the group issued its first proper recording, the concise yet engaging Sol!d Pop.
