The Texas supergroup I Love Math pulls from country-rock, power pop, and the Everly Brothers' signature harmonies while drawing its personnel from the Deathray Davies, Old 97's, Apples in Stereo, and the Paper Chase. John Dufilho supplies vocals and guitar, Jason Garner handles bass, Philip Peeples plays drums, and Andy Lester covers keyboards. The quartet assembled in the early 2000s, carving time from their main bands to shape the sparse, melodic material that filled the group's self-titled debut. Dufilho began a solo career in 2005 and entered Apples in Stereo's lineup the following year, all while sustaining his recording and touring obligations with the Deathray Davies. The band nevertheless completed a second album, Getting to the Point Is Beside It, which appeared in May 2008. That summer I Love Math toured with the Old 97's, Philip Peeples serving as drummer for both acts.
