Emerging from Pittsburgh, Icarus Witch specializes in dark melodic heavy metal by fusing the twin leads and galloping rhythms of traditional 1980s metal with lyrics centered on the occult, witchcraft, and paganism. Their first album, Capture the Magic, appeared in 2005, after which the group kept sharpening a sound that merges classic metal, AOR, goth, and modern heavy rock across the well-received Draw Down the Moon (2010), Goodbye Cruel World (2018), and No Devil Lived On (2024).

Jason “Sin” Myers formed the band on bass in 2003 and looked to early-’80s American metal acts such as Queensrÿche, Dio, and Cirith Ungol while preparing the four-song EP Roses on White Lace. Following a period of sharpening their skills via multiple tribute-album appearances and securing a deal with Magica, the metal imprint of Cleopatra Records, Icarus Witch issued their full-length debut Capture the Magic in 2005. Songs for the Lost (2007) and Draw Down the Moon (2010) kept the NWOTHM flag flying, yet Rise (2012) steered the band toward a more modern metal direction. Goodbye Cruel World (2018) and No Devil Lived On (2023) balanced both impulses, uniting the melodic AOR force and pagan themes of earlier work with the muscular force of present-day production.
