Formed in Los Angeles during the early 1990s by producer and mentor Chris Stokes, Immature emerged as pre-teen R&B sensations featuring barely ten-year-old members Marques "Batman" Houston, Jerome "Romeo" Jones, and Kelton "LDB" Kessee. Their first release, the 1992 Virgin album On Our Worst Behavior, yielded the modest R&B single "Tear It Up," featured in the animated film Bebe's Kids. Signing with MCA, the group issued Playtyme Is Over in 1994 and scored pop successes with "Never Lie" and "Constantly," earning the project gold certification. They also appeared in the Kid 'n Play movie House Party 3. Their third album, We Got It, performed solidly even though no single reached the Top 40; the track "Feel the Funk" from the film Dangerous Minds came nearest at number 46. On their fourth album, The Journey, Immature considered adopting the name Mature yet ultimately channeled the artistic shift into the music itself, achieving R&B-chart traction without comparable pop impact. Adopting the moniker IMx, they released Introducing IMx in 1999, though the sonic approach remained largely unchanged. A greatest-hits collection appeared in February 2001.
