In the mold of contemporaries such as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and 'NSync, the five members of Innosense set their sights on dominating the dance-pop realm of fervent adolescent fans, arena sellouts, and demanding fashion sessions. The quintet represents another project from Lou Pearlman’s Orlando-based Trans Continental imprint, which issued the group’s RCA debut, So Together, during August 2000.

Nikki DeLoach, Danay Ferrer, Mandy Ashford, Veronica Finn, and Jenny Morris each arrived via routes that echoed those taken by their label mates. DeLoach had appeared on the Mickey Mouse Club alongside 'NSync’s Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez as well as Christina Aguilera. Ferrer attended high school with 'NSync’s Joey Fatone, while Ashford shared musical-theater stages with Lance Bass. Timberlake’s mother, Lynn Harless, assumed management of the ensemble in 1997.

So Together draws on contributions from Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, whose past clients include Celine Dion and Toni Braxton, along with production by Guy Roche, previously linked to Christina Aguilera, and Full Force, known for work with both 'NSync and Backstreet Boys. The members characterize their sound as lighthearted, energetic, and tinged with retro influences, noting that the songs mirror their shared enthusiasm for dancing and live performance. Britney Spears had in fact belonged to the original lineup before departing in 1997 to launch her solo career.
