Biography
Born Cem Berter, DJ Jamie Lewis made his entrance onto the Swiss club circuit in 1985, initially focusing on classic disco and funk selections before immersing himself in the rise of house music at the close of the decade and emerging as a key figure across the European scene.
He founded Dee Jay Service, his own record shop in Winterhur, Switzerland, during 1987, and the outlet quickly became a cornerstone for local DJs. Lewis moved into recording with a debut release on Italy’s UMM label in 1992, then followed with a sophomore effort two years later on Canada’s Definitive Records.
The momentum from those first two albums prompted him to launch his Purple Music label in 1997, where he partnered with artists such as Bob Sinclair, DJ Pippi, Brian Tappert, and Andrea Love. In the same year he and his associates inaugurated the Purple Music Nights residency at Zurich’s Kaufleuten nightspot.
Lewis has since remained a regular presence in leading clubs worldwide, performing for capacity audiences from New York to L.A., Ibiza to Athens, Dubai to London, and numerous other cities. Productions such as “The Light” and “Be Thankful” with Michelle Weeks, together with his remix of Cerrone’s “It’s Over,” have established themselves among house music’s most frequently played tracks.
His catalog, spanning appearances on more than 22 compilations and dozens of original works, has been issued by the U.K.-based Defected and multinational Universal.
