Jeremy Ivey, a Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist who also writes songs and performs vocals, first drew attention in the early 2010s as a participant in the country-soul group Buffalo Clover, which he shared with his spouse, the singer-songwriter Margo Price. Once Price’s profile rose sharply in 2016, Ivey spent several years supporting her as lead guitarist and sideman before inking a contract with Anti- and stepping forward with his own releases, The Dream and the Dreamer and Waiting Out the Storm. That trajectory reached a further stage with the wider sonic palette of 2022’s Invisible Pictures.

Raised in a conservative household in Georgia, Ivey spent years drifting across regions while holding kitchen jobs and honing his guitar skills. He eventually reached Nashville and crossed paths with Price. As both artistic and romantic partners, the pair lived briefly in Colorado, where they busked and composed material together, before returning to Music City; there they married and immersed themselves in the city’s independent-music community. After filling supporting roles in several local ensembles, among them the Secret Handshake, Ivey and Price launched Buffalo Clover in 2008. The group’s retro-flavored blend of country, rock, and soul attracted listeners, leading to three joint albums over the ensuing years. Following Price’s solo breakthrough with the well-received 2016 set Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, Ivey concentrated on his duties as her musical counterpart and lead guitarist.

In 2019, after more than a decade spent assisting others, he secured his own deal with Anti- and prepared a debut album. Issued that September, The Dream and the Dreamer fused guitar-centered country rock and folk with subtle psychedelic hues. Demonstrating rapid productivity, he promptly returned to the studio for 2020’s Waiting Out the Storm, an album that retained much of its predecessor’s musical approach yet voiced more explicit political themes; Price again served as producer. Invisible Pictures, his third full-length, arrived in 2022 and matched emotionally hopeful lyricism with an array of vintage influences stretching from flamenco to British Invasion rock.
