American rapper Jerreau Smith initially belonged to the Columbus, Ohio hip-hop collective Fly Union. Working alongside production duo MnkeyWrench (Iyeball & Jay Swifa), he issued two studio albums under that banner, beginning with TGTC in 2011 and continuing with Small Victories in 2014. After departing the group, Smith stepped out on his own in 2015 with the Swifa-produced single "Really Got It," which became the Cleveland Cavaliers' anthem throughout the 2016 NBA Finals. His debut solo project, Never How You Plan, arrived that summer. The 14-track set spotlighted his introspective, densely layered lyricism alongside nostalgic beats, and included guest contributions from Kaine on "The Flow (Four Stories)" plus Lolah Brown on the Aaliyah-sampling "Come Over."
