Having grown up in Madrid, this singer-songwriter headed for the U.K. in the mid-2000s, enrolled at Liverpool’s Institute for Performing Arts, and then settled in London. While attempting to gain a foothold in the music industry, he sustained himself by singing in bars, aboard cruise ships, and inside restaurants. Zelada’s first real break arrived in 2011 once BBC Radio 2 began championing the single “Breakfast in Spitalfields.” Issued in early 2012, his debut album High Ceilings & Collarbones offered a sleek, mainstream pop/soul sound.
