Kashus Culpepper grew up in Alabama and crafts songs that fall under the 21st century country banner. His unpolished yet earthy approach draws deeply from Southern traditions while folding older blues, soul, gospel, and folk elements into a country framework. The straightforward manner in which he sings, records, and produces masks the refined skill he brings to both performance and songwriting.

Raised in Alexander City, Alabama, Culpepper started performing at age five during church services. Friends, relatives, and fellow worshippers broadened his listening across numerous styles. In his teens he picked up guitar and absorbed the work of Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Ray LaMontagne, and later Chris Stapleton. He mastered older cover material and began composing original pieces with serious intent.

During his time in the U.S. Air Force he kept developing as a musician by playing at bonfires for fellow service members. Following an honorary discharge he took the stage in local dive bars and small clubs before expanding his performances throughout the South. Once he moved to Nashville, other players there extended a warm reception; soon afterward he secured a booking at the Grand Ole Opry and signed with Mercury/Republic’s Big Loud Records imprint. In 2024 he issued four singles—“After Me” and “Pour Me Out” among them—that he wrote and co-produced himself.
