Biography
Pop/rock singer and guitarist Ken Block launched his professional career at age 12. He co-founded the acoustic jangle pop outfit Sister Hazel in Gainesville, FL, during 1993. The band issued its independently released self-titled debut in 1994, an album that included multiple tracks co-written by Block, before securing a deal with Universal Records; that label put out …Somewhere More Familiar in 1997. The release earned platinum certification, propelled by the Top 20 chart performance of the Block-co-written single “All for You.” Sister Hazel issued Fortress in 2000, a project that achieved less commercial traction, then reverted to independent territory with Chasing Daylight (2003) on the group’s own Sixthman imprint. Both that record and its follow-up, Lift (2004), appeared on the charts. Sister Hazel shifted to the Rock Ridge Music roster for the 2006 holiday album Santa’s Playlist. Block, who continued as a Sister Hazel member, issued his first solo outing, Drift, on Rock Ridge on December 9, 2008.
