Biography
Norwegian producers Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas have shaped the nu-disco movement since the early 2000s, working both separately and together. Their relaxed, frequently extended tracks, rich in bubbling keyboards and trippy guitar lines, draw from Balearic house, space disco, cosmic jazz, and Krautrock. The self-titled debut album from Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas earned praise when it surfaced in 2005, after which the pair strengthened their standing via further releases and remixes for Annie, the Juan MacLean, and the Chemical Brothers. Following largely separate endeavors throughout the 2010s, the duo reunited for their third studio album in 2020.
Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and Thomas Moen Hermansen started collaborating near the start of 2003. Their initial joint single, Further into the Future, came out on Lindstrøm’s Feedelity label toward the end of 2004. The full-length Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas followed on Belgium’s Eskimo Recordings in 2005. Among their remix projects were versions for Norwegian dance-pop star Annie (“The Greatest Hit”) plus ’80s Italo-disco acts Alexander Robotnick (“The Dark Side of the Spoon”) and Answering Service (“Call Me Mr. Telephone”). Additional singles and EPs appeared as well, one of them an alternate take on the well-known album cut Boney M Down; Reinterpretations, a 2007 compact disc, gathered several of these pieces. The pair issued the funky, club-oriented non-album single Tirsdagsjam in 2009, then the more expansive full-length II.
During the first half of the 2010s Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas supplied remixes such as Roxy Music’s “Avalon” and the Chemical Brothers’ “Swoon,” with further duties resuming later in the decade for Flume, London Grammar, Cerrone, and additional artists. Working remotely at a measured pace, the duo resurfaced in 2020 with the Smalltown Supersound release III.
