The lineup of Lo-Pro placed vocals in the hands of Pete Murray, guitar duties with Neil Godfrey alongside Pete Ricci, drumming by Tommy Stewart, and bass from John Fahnestock. Extensive prior experience marked most of these musicians, as Murray and Godfrey had already worked together in Ultraspank, Stewart had served as Godsmack’s first drummer, and Fahnestock had performed with both Snot and Amen. Aaron Lewis of Staind first placed Murray and Godfrey on his own vanity label, 413, an imprint operating through Geffen. Stewart, Fahnestock, and Ricci joined the roster by the close of 2002, after which the group entered the studio during summer 2003 under the guidance of Don Gilmore, a producer previously associated with Pearl Jam and Linkin Park. Several months afterward the self-titled debut appeared, presenting a streamlined post-grunge approach aimed at radio formats. Early 2004 saw Lo-Pro begin club dates with Three Days Grace.
