Biography
Dutch singer/songwriter Tessa Douwstra records under the solo name Luwten, shaping airy pop songs whose delicate arrangements support lyrics that remain straightforward while revealing intricate construction. Electronic textures and field recordings interweave with acoustic instruments throughout her work, yielding an expansive yet natural atmosphere.
Earlier she led the acoustic folk-rock band Orlando and performed with the collective Wooden Saints, while also appearing on albums by indie acts including Blaudzun and the Leonids. In 2016 she launched her Luwten project and supported Eefje de Visser across Europe. The self-titled debut album arrived the following year, its sly and alluring track “Go Honey” drawing the strongest notice. A fuller re-recording of another standout piece, titled “In Over My Head II,” surfaced in 2019. Guest spots on releases by De Staat, Klangstof, and San Holo preceded the 2020 EP Door, which shifted toward stronger beats.
