London-based pop artist Malay fuses his agreeably soulful voice and relaxed lyrics alongside breezy electronic rhythms and tabla to introduce an eastern touch. Ahead of his first album, radio outlets received "Your Hate Gets Stronger" during late 1999, while stations obtained an early video for "Star," the opening track from that forthcoming record, in fall 2000. His first proper full-length release, Spitmarks on the Mirror, reached stores at the close of April 2001 and positioned "Sandalwood Breeze" as the follow-up single. In May of that year Malay joined the musicians who had accompanied him for four years to appear at several U.K. music festivals.
