Meg Lee Chin entered the world in Taipei, Taiwan, and by age ten had already constructed a radio receiver from scratch. She later took up work as a sound engineer while pursuing studies in experimental art and video production at San Francisco State University, where she assembled her earliest group, Felix Natural, in the opening years of the 1980s. After capturing Faith No More’s initial demo recordings, she joined forces with Lunachicks drummer Becky Wreck and Swans guitarist Joe Goldring to launch the brief Teknofear project. Dissatisfied with life in the United States, Chin relocated to London for the remainder of the decade and there assembled Crunch, becoming the first Western ensemble to play the Ukraine following its separation from the USSR. Back on American soil she accepted a one-day stint as vocalist in Butch Vig’s nascent Garbage, yet disagreements with the other members prompted her swift departure. Chin next constructed a personal facility called Egg Studio; after contributing to Pigface’s 1997 album A New High in Low and the subsequent Below the Belt, she issued her first solo collection, Piece and Love, in 1999, followed the next year by Junkies and Snakes.
