Biography
Infamous for a bondage-and-S&M visual aesthetic, the Genitorturers operate as an industrial-tinged alternative rock outfit that has cultivated an intense cult audience, particularly within fetish circles. The moniker itself provokes debate, since fetish enthusiasts employ “genitorture” to denote sadomasochistic practices focused on the genitals. Frontwoman Gen works as an actual dominatrix and has called the Marquis de Sade a “literary master,” while the band’s theatrical performances routinely feature piercings, whippings, spankings, and assorted additional acts of kink. Emerging in Tampa, FL, during the early 1990s, the Genitorturers—rounded out by bassist David Vincent, keyboardist V. Stilletto, guitarist Chains, and drummer Racci Shay—issued their first full-length, 120 Days of Genitorture, on IRS in 1993. Later efforts followed with 1998’s Sin City, 2000’s Machine Love, and 2002’s Flesh is the Law. Extensive road work across the U.S., Europe, and Japan helped build momentum and a devoted following that adopted the name “Genheads,” a phenomenon documented on the 2007 DVD Live in Sin City.
