Rappers often appear as guests on each other's tracks when they share the same collective, yet now and then their rapport proves strong enough to require an official alliance. The project MellowHigh arose by merging the abilities of Odd Future associates MellowHype—comprising Hodgy Beats and Left Brain—with Domo Genesis, resulting in one of the most unavoidable partnerships since Method Man and Redman began issuing joint albums. Even though MellowHype and Domo Genesis had already contributed to one another's recordings, the first complete release credited to MellowHigh surfaced in 2013 when the three artists dropped their self-titled debut, a Billboard-charting album issued through Odd Future Records.
