Biography
Mercy Chinwo, a gospel singer and songwriter whose worship music delivers both fervor and solace, earned the Nigerian Idol crown in 2012. She unveiled her first full-length project, The Cross: My Gaze, in 2019. With honors steadily accumulating, she issued SATISFIED in 2020 and followed it in 2024 with Overwhelming Victory, an album combining studio and live recordings; that same year she partnered with Bidemi Olaoba on the duet “Give Me Chance.”
Born Mercy Nnenda Chinwo in Rivers State, Nigeria, she started performing in her church choir during early childhood. She entered the second season of Nigerian Idol in 2012 and emerged as the winner. Tracks such as “Testimony” and “IGWE” appeared soon afterward, and after signing with the gospel label EeZee Conceptz she made her official label debut in 2017 via the single “Trust.” The imprint released her debut album, The Cross: My Gaze, in April 2019; the hour-plus collection contained guest appearances by Chris Morgan, Olaitan Odoko, Fiokee, and Shady B. Her sophomore album, SATISFIED, arrived in 2020, the year she also received the Gospel Artist of the Year African Muzik Magazine Award, further expanding her trophy case.
After wedding Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa and beginning a family with him in Lagos, she resurfaced in April 2023 with the EP Elevated, her first release on GNT Nation, the label and ministry the couple had recently established. Her third studio album, Overwhelming Victory, followed on GNT Nation in March 2024. Three months later she dropped the single “Give Me Chance,” a collaboration with Bidemi Olaoba.
