In 1996 Jonah Jenkins, the former frontman of Only Living Witness, teamed with guitarist Darryl Shepard—who had earlier stints in the hardcore unit Slapshot and the stoner-rock group Roadsaw—to launch the Boston experimental hard-rock outfit Milligram. At first the project remained secondary for both musicians, yet it gained traction two years afterward once bassist Bob Maloney and drummer Zephan Courtney were enlisted to track the P.C.-averse debut Hello Motherfucker!. Their next effort took an even more provocative turn: initially titled Death to America, the album was slated to begin tracking on Sept 11, 2001. After that day’s events forced an abrupt revision, the band—now including replacement bassist Jeff Turlik—completed the retitled sophomore release This is Class War in early 2002. Though Milligram dissolved only months later, Small Stone Records acquired the final recordings and issued them posthumously in 2003.
