Biography
Formed under the influence of early-1990s hardcore acts, Misconduct took root in the modest Swedish town of Kristineham. The original roster—Fredrik "Ollo" Olsson handling vocals, Martin "Mört" Roed on guitar, Daniel Andersson on bass, and Jonas "J.C." Carlsson behind the drums—locked into place when the group launched operations in 1995. Months after committing their first demo, the wistfully named “Like the Old Days,” to tape, the songs caught the ear of Sweden’s Bad Taste Records. Two tracks from that demo subsequently appeared on the label’s compilation This Is Bad Taste – The Ultimate Punk Party, spotlighting several of its roster’s strongest outfits.
Following a string of regional gigs, the quartet tracked its debut EP. Titled Change and issued by Bad Taste in December 1996, the record’s energetic fusion of hardcore and punk rock paved the way for a full-length debut. Released in the middle of 1997, …Another Time delivered broader acclaim within Sweden’s punk community. After the 1998 single “Signed in Blood,” the lineup shifted: Andersson departed for personal reasons and was replaced by Mattias Nielsen; Roed soon exited as well, with Fredrik Andersson stepping in. The revamped ensemble unveiled A New Direction in February 1999.
An exhaustive touring cycle followed, after which Carlsson chose to leave, placing the band in an uncertain state. Fresh recruits Mattias Pettersson and Andreas Wall— the latter replacing Daniel Andersson—stabilized the group and propelled it onto the Bad Taste Tour as a headlining act. In 2000 Misconduct teamed with Trigger Happy for the joint release Split; the following year saw the third studio album, One Last Try.
During 2002 the band again entered the studio, this time alongside fellow Swede Lennart Karlsson, committing to an analog 16-channel console and minimizing reliance on digital processing. Two years of sessions culminated in …United As One, which Union 2112 released in February 2004.
