Biography
Mitch Malloy grew up in Dickinson, North Dakota, where his musical abilities took shape early through regular appearances in school concerts and church choirs. During his mid-teens he first gained performing experience in cover bands, after which he moved to Seattle to attend art school. He left after a single year and traveled to New York City; several years of persistent effort there led to a recording contract with RCA. His self-titled debut album, issued in early 1992, achieved respectable sales without reaching blockbuster levels and yielded the mid-chart pop single “Anything at All.” For the follow-up project Ceilings & Walls the label matched him with producer Christopher Neil to shift his music toward a more adult-contemporary sound. The album did not enlarge his existing audience, so Malloy relocated to Nashville and continued working as a songwriter. In 2000 he issued his third album, the long-awaited Shine.
