Residing in Berlin, Germany, Maurycy Zimmerman records and performs as Mooryc, a Polish producer and singer/songwriter whose output draws from a broad spectrum of textures that stretch from sleek, enigmatic yet approachable electro pop to buoyant neo-folk. Born in Poznań in 1981, he absorbed an eclectic mix of jazz, classical, and mainstream influences during his formative years, encompassing Arvo Pärt, Johann Sebastian Bach, Händel, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, and Boards of Canada. Early on he exhibited both intuitive skill and scholarly curiosity toward composition and performance, most notably by pursuing cello construction and delving into the instrument’s historical and philosophical dimensions. His growing fascination with varied studio methods led him to issue several EPs on independent German and Italian labels throughout the 2000s under the Mooryc name. During those years he also partnered with pianist Krzysztof Dys and the duo SzaZa while supplying remixes for Rangleklods and Saurone. A subsequent signing with Freude am Tanzen opened the door to repeated joint work with labelmate Douglas Greed and the latter’s Eating Snow project. Mooryc’s first full-length for the imprint, Roofs, surfaced in 2013. He followed it with the 2015 album Take ‘Em All and then Wiped Out, issued via Sonar Kollektiv in 2016; the latter record adopted a noticeably more organic character than its predecessors without relinquishing his refined, signature electronic production.
