The quartet of Dutch musicians Bor on vocals and guitar, Dennis on guitar, Jamil on bass, and Noel Rule on drums first operated under the extended name "Nembrionic Hammerdeath" before settling on the streamlined grindcore identity Nembrionic around 1991. They joined the Displeased Records roster the following year and released the EP Themes on an Occult Theory, then completed their first full-length effort, Tempter, in 1993. A European run supporting At the Gates prompted the addition of select death-metal ingredients to the 1995 release Psycho One Hundred. The 1996 album Briljant, Hard & Geslepen followed as an experimental deathcore project alongside fellow Dutch act Osdorp Posse; afterward the group returned to its heavier approach for the 1997 Bloodcult EP and the 1998 album Incomplete.
