Biography
New Look, an electro-pop duo, blends elements from bygone eras with forward-thinking ideas through their affinity for vintage gear and a precise, assured method of crafting tunes. The group features vocalist and synthesizer operator Sarah Ruba, who moonlights as a model, alongside her spouse Adam Pavao, who handles production and plays various instruments. Their partnership started when the two crossed paths in Toronto during 2005. Following the creation of initial demo recordings the subsequent year, they shifted their base to Brooklyn, aiming to integrate more deeply with the apparel sector; there they exchanged vows, established a recording space, and produced their inaugural EP titled How’s My Hair? Over the ensuing couple of years, their spare sonic palette, collaborative inventiveness, and trendsetting aesthetic drew an expanding audience, prompting work on a complete album. Spanning three years and locations including Berlin, Brooklyn, plus Hamilton in Ontario, the sessions incorporated a hiatus during 2010 for relocations first to Berlin then Toronto along with supporting the xx on the road. The resulting self-titled album saw release via !K7 during the autumn of 2011.
