Biography
Nite Fields fuse post-punk, shoegaze, and electronic textures to create a sound that feels both recognizable and enigmatic, echoing the lineage of other Australian groups like the Church and the Go-Betweens. Danny Venzin, the band’s vocalist, first connected with Chris Campion during their time together in Brisbane, where they bonded over similar musical interests; after relocating to Melbourne, the pair established Nite Fields in 2011. Bassist Michael Whitney and drummer Liza Harvey came aboard shortly thereafter, allowing the four-piece to develop material that merged keyboards and samplers with standard rock instrumentation. Once the group’s atmospheric origins gave way to a more driving approach, they issued two singles on Venzin’s Lost Race imprint—Happy New Year in 2012 and Vacation in 2014. The latter track drew the attention of HTRK’s Nigel Lee-Yang, who helmed the recording sessions for the band’s first full-length effort. Felte Records released that debut album, Depersonalisation, in February 2015.
