Biography
During the early 1990s Peshay emerged as a protégé of Goldie through shared production duties at Reinforced Records, the imprint operated by 4 Hero. His jungle and drum'n'bass approach, shaped by house alongside refined strains of jazz fusion, aligned him with both Goldie and 4 Hero. Active as a breakbeat DJ from the outset of his career, Peshay first appeared on vinyl via Reinforced in 1993 with the Protegé EP, then entered Goldie's Metalheadz roster and delivered its second single, "Psychosis." Additional 12"s followed on LTJ Bukem's Good Looking Records, among them "The Piano Tune" and "19.5."
A serious illness kept him inactive throughout jungle's breakthrough year of 1995, yet he resurfaced in 1996 to rework tracks from Goldie's Timeless ("Inner City Life" and "Angel") and to supply material for the Mo'Wax collection Headz II. After signing with Mo'Wax he issued the single "Miles from Home" in mid-1998 and collaborated on further recordings with Photek's Rupert Parkes. The label's effective closure the next year postponed plans for a debut album, which finally surfaced in July 1999 on Island Blue as the full-length Miles from Home. Five additional 12"s appeared on that imprint, including "Switch" and "Truly," together with further releases for Photek Productions.
Following standard practice among leading jungle producers, Peshay established his own outlet, Cubik Music Productions, which handled subsequent 12"s as well as the albums Fuzion in 2002 and Jammin' in 2004. Outside his own catalog he placed singles and joint projects on Infrared, Black Widow, Reinforced, and Formation, while also supplying remixes for Galliano, Jay Dee, Carl Craig, Goldie, Ingrid Schroeder, DJ Die, DJ Shadow, and Courtney Pine.
V Records released the six-track EP Funkster in March 2013; the three-track Generation EP on Tru Thoughts came next, followed by his fourth album of the same name in December.
