Biography
Hailing from Nigeria, Pheelz operates as a producer, songwriter, and vocalist who fuses multiple genres. He has built a career both through his own recordings and through behind-the-scenes work for acts such as Olamide, Teni, and Fireboy DML. His output merges R&B, pop, and hip-hop into a danceable, emotionally charged style. After first gaining notice through productions for Olamide that began in 2011, he earned repeated Producer of the Year nominations at the Headies—where he won in 2020—as well as at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and additional ceremonies. His first EP, Hear Me Out, appeared in 2021. Breakthrough as a solo performer arrived with the 2022 single “Finesse,” which reached the top of multiple African charts plus the U.K. Afrobeats survey. Early in 2023 he issued the follow-up EP Pheelz Good.
Phillip Kayode Moses grew up in Lagos State and sang in church during childhood. Following high school he collaborated with ID Cabasa, founder of the Coded Tunes label, then began working with the label’s signee Olamide. That partnership included an appearance on the rapper’s 2011 debut Rapsodi and production credits on most of 2012’s YBNL. Pheelz issued his own first single, “Hustle,” the same year. Further productions for Olamide brought additional Producer of the Year nominations at the Headies, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and City People Entertainment Awards across several seasons. Between 2015 and 2016 he released multiple singles, among them the Olamide-featuring tracks “Son of Abraham” and “I.J.N.,” while also collaborating with Seyi Shay, Runtown, and Mr Eazi. He handled several tracks on Fireboy DML’s 2019 debut album, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps.
In 2020 the Headies named him Producer of the Year for contributions to Teni’s Billionaire EP, and he issued the amapiano-tinged single “One Life.” He produced multiple songs on Teni’s 2021 album WONDALAND while simultaneously releasing Hear Me Out. The 2022 track “Finesse,” which features Nigerian singer Bnxn, quickly went viral, topping charts in nearly a dozen African countries and reaching number one on the U.K. Afrobeats Singles chart. Remixes arrived featuring Bounty Killer and French Montana, alongside further Pheelz singles “Electricity,” which features Davido, and “Ballin.” Those recordings formed the core of the 2023 EP Pheelz Good. He followed it with “YOLO” and “JELO,” the latter featuring Young Jonn and appearing on the four-song Pheelz Good (Triibe Tape) that November.
