After failing to secure spots in One True Voice on the 2002 British program Popstar, five contestants chose to chase stardom on their own. In February 2003 Andrew Kinlochan, Chris Park, Nikk Mager, Mikey Green, and Peter Smith signed with Hyperactive, the label that had already converted another batch of Popstar rejects into the modestly successful Liberty X. Their debut single, "Hold on Me," reached British radio shortly after the group formed. The following year brought the second single, "Love Revolution," and a cover of Duran Duran's "Wild Boys." Although Peter Smith exited to launch a solo career, Phixx still delivered their South African debut album, Electrophonic Revolution, that same year. Additional tracks from the record continued to surface in the U.K. during 2005, but the band dissolved completely by the end of the year, each member electing to pursue individual projects.
