Biography
Berlin-based DJ and producer Daniel Fisher, known as Physical Therapy, moves fluidly across multiple genres, connecting his tracks through unconventional choices and melodic emotion. He first gained recognition via bootleg R&B edits before shifting focus to material aimed at club play. His initial EP, Safety Net from 2012, draws on house, disco, techno, and jungle. Subsequent projects maintain tighter thematic focus while still differing sharply from one another, evident in the techno-driven Hit the Breaks of 2015 and the lo-fi house emphasis of 2017’s More Sugar.
Raised in New Jersey, Fisher absorbed alternative and rock sounds during his formative years. Electronic music took hold only after his 2009 relocation to Chicago, where he began experimenting with bootleg R&B edits. Shayne Oliver took notice and invited him to hold a residency at GHE20 G0TH1K, prompting a return to New York. At the height of the party’s popularity in 2012, Fisher stepped back to concentrate on studio work and the release of his debut EP. Having settled on a style positioned at the edges of house and techno, he launched his own imprint, Allergy Season, inaugurating it with Non-Drowsy in 2013. That same summer he traveled to Berlin and chose to remain after experiencing its nightlife. Once established in Europe, he entered a particularly active 2015 that featured two key releases—Hit the Breaks and Waiting Room in DJ Hell, the latter created with Gobby and Jefferey Joyal for an installation at the Perez Art Museum in Miami—along with a full-length album issued under the dual alias Kirk the Flirt and Peter Pressure on 1080p and the first Fatherhood outing, a collaboration with Michael Magnan. Over the following three years he issued additional EPs: Baktadust in 2016 on Work Them Records, More Sugar in 2017 on Sounds of Beaubien Ouest, and Buttercup in 2018 on Renascence.
