Pia Mia, an American singer, songwriter, and model, drew from her early admiration for Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, and Michael Jackson when shaping her own blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop. She first appeared on the scene in 2013 with the EP The Gift and achieved her initial international breakthrough two years later via the platinum-certified single “Do It Again,” a collaboration with Chris Brown and Tyga.

Born Pia Mia Perez in Guam, she began building an audience by posting videos on sharing platforms that eventually surpassed 17 million views and attracted the notice of Chris Brown’s manager Abou Thaim. Thaim recruited producer Nic Nac to record a 2013 cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Interest surged after an a cappella rendition performed at a dinner in the Kardashian household with Kanye West present was later posted by Kim, and that version was included on Mia’s debut EP, The Gift, released by Interscope at the end of 2013.

In 2015 she issued the single “F**k with U” featuring G-Eazy alongside “Do It Again” with Chris Brown and Tyga; the latter track became a global hit and earned platinum certification in the U.S., Australia, the U.K., and New Zealand. Additional singles followed, among them the U.K. and Australia Top 50 hit “Touch” and “I’m a Fan” featuring Jeremih, which kept her active into 2017, the year she released The Gift II.

Near the close of the decade Mia made her acting debut in the romantic comedy film After, which also featured her song “Bitter Love.” Further singles appeared that year, including “Crybaby” featuring Theron Theron, “Feel Up” with YG, and “Don’t Get Me Started” with Gunna and Carnage. She opened the 2020s with the Chris Brown-sampling track “Princess.”
