Biography
Thomas Troelsen, an acclaimed singer and producer, fronts the Danish dance-pop trio Private, which made its entrance in 2007 via a Top Ten album and two Top Five singles. Before assembling the band alongside guitarist Asger Tarpgaard and vocalist Tanja Simonsen, Troelsen spent nearly a decade in the dance-pop sextet Superheroes, a lineup that also featured both Tarpgaard and Simonsen from 1997 through 2006. During those years the group issued three studio albums—Dancing Casanova in 1998, Igloo in 2000, and the 2002 release Superheroes, which reached the Danish Top 20—plus the 2004 best-of compilation Behind Our Masks We Are Perfectly Ordinary People and several singles. Troelsen additionally handled production and remix duties for other Scandinavian artists, among them Junior Senior on the 2002 track “Move Your Feet,” Melody Club’s “Take Me Away” from 2004 along with “Boys in the Girls’ Room” and “Wildhearts” the following year, and Gisli’s “The World Is Movin’” in 2007. Private’s debut full-length, My Secret Lover, arrived that same year through Universal Music Denmark, climbed into the Top Ten on the Danish albums chart, and yielded the major singles “My Secret Lover” and “Crucify My Heart,” which peaked at numbers two and four. Building on this momentum, Troelsen received Male Vocalist of the Year and Producer of the Year honors at the 2007 Danish Music Awards, while plans were set in motion for an international rollout of My Secret Lover.
