PRONOUN

Alyse Vellturo, the multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter from Brooklyn, shaped the confessional pop project pronoun. During her Boston upbringing she acquired skills on piano, guitar, and drums before beginning to compose and capture her own material in her early teens. After earning a music business degree from Berklee College of Music she relocated to New York in 2012 to manage independent labels. Music resurfaced later when the end of a long-term relationship in 2015 prompted her to track a batch of songs in her bedroom. Pronoun’s first single, “A Million Other Things,” surfaced late in 2016, followed soon by the Tinder-referencing EP There’s No One New Around You, released jointly on Rhyme & Reason and Vellturo’s own Sleep Well imprint. The May 2017 remix EP Use Passport to Choose New Location presented reworkings by Funeral Advantage, Future Generations, YEYEY, and Charles Fauna. That same year Vellturo issued the single “It’s the Way” to benefit Planned Parenthood. Pronoun reappeared early in 2018 with the sweeping single “Run.”
