Biography
Ryan Hemsworth, the Juno Award-winning producer, anchors the indie rock collaboration Quarter-Life Crisis, which unites his melodic frameworks and sonic designs with lyrics plus vocal contributions from an array of guests. Stepping aside from the producer’s earlier club-oriented work, the self-titled 2020 debut EP adopted a reflective stance and showcased participants drawn from Hop Along, Hand Habits, and additional acts.
Hemsworth oversaw studio production that incorporated live instrumentation across the six tracks. The collection moved between atmospheric indie folk, heard on “Waterfall” with Hovvdy’s Charlie Martin, and dreamy synthesizer songs such as “Comfortable” featuring Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy. Additional singer-lyricists, including the idiosyncratic Frances Quinlan of Hop Along, lent each piece its distinct character while the overall sequence preserved a hazy, meditative flow. The EP appeared on Saddle Creek in December of 2020.
