Raedio

Raedio sprang from the initiative of American actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae as an "audio everywhere company" that handles artist development, publishing, licensing, and further music-related activities. Its imprint supplied the soundtracks for the fourth and fifth seasons of Insecure (2020-2021) plus Rap Sh!t (2022-2023), each spotlighting forward-looking R&B and hip-hop acts.

Issa Rae, the writer and star of The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and Insecure, launched Raedio to open doors for similarly inclined musicians and creatives by linking film, television, music, and advertising in support of emerging independent artists. In 2019 her company finalized an arrangement with Atlantic Records to issue the soundtrack for Insecure’s fourth season. The compilation reached listeners the following June and contained Pink Sweat$ and Price’s “Cadillac Drive” together with Kirby and Lucky Daye’s “Velvet [Remix].”

Insecure: Music from the HBO Original Series, Season 5 appeared in 2021, fronted by Saweetie’s “Get It Girl.” Rae went on to create the comedy series Rap Sh!t, which likewise served as a platform for new artists and yielded Rap Sh!t: Soundtrack from the Max Original Series, S1 in 2022 along with Rap Sh!t: The Mixtape from the Max Original Series, S2 in 2023. Both projects featured Shawna & Mia—the fictional rap duo portrayed by Aida Osman and KaMillion—plus Jean Deaux, Rico Nasty, and Sexyy Red.
