Biography
Rah Digga stands out as the lone female voice in hip-hop's Flipmode Squad, a crew that also includes Busta Rhymes, Rampage, and Lord Have Mercy, placing her among the genre's leading women MCs. Her forceful delivery on the mic contrasts with an unexpectedly grounded upbringing. New Jersey gave her a birthplace, after which she enrolled at a private academy in Maryland before pursuing a degree in electrical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Early on she rhymed alongside Twice the Flavor and became the sole female presence in Da Outsidaz, the New Jersey collective. A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip caught her set at New York's Lyricist Lounge and connected her with Busta Rhymes, who then brought her into the Flipmode fold. Through that affiliation she contributed to Rhymes' 1997 release When Disaster Strikes as well as the group's own The Imperial Album in 1998. Additional guest spots include the Fugees' track "Cowboys" and a collaboration with Bahamadia on "Be Ok" for Lyricist Lounge, Vol. 1. Dirty Harriet marked her first proper solo album in 2000, with guest appearances by Rhymes and Ruff Ryders' Eve.
