ReConnected originated as a five-piece ensemble under the name Connected when the members assembled in 2010 specifically to audition for the talent series Britain's Got Talent. They advanced to the live final, delivering covers of material by the Backstreet Boys, the Jackson 5, and their stated idols Westlife. During the finale they performed Daughtry's "What About Now" and placed eighth overall. Following the conclusion of the series, the group joined the other finalists on a nationwide British tour. Once the trek ended, the act disbanded. Harry Mondryk, Max Mondryk, and Matt Fitzgerald promptly regrouped as the trio ReConnected, excluding brothers Myles Ryan and Connor Ryan.

Throughout 2011 the three-piece maintained a continuous touring schedule while beginning a creative partnership with songwriter and producer Tim Woodcock. Toward the close of that year the band secured a recording contract with RKA Records—the imprint co-owned by entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne—after appearing on Dragons' Den. In 2012 they resumed live performances; around the same period the track "One in a Million" surfaced for the first time and was later designated their debut single. The remainder of the year stayed comparatively subdued as the members focused on academic commitments.

The group resurfaced in early 2013 to issue "One in a Million," which climbed to number 32 on the U.K. chart and was promoted through a 22-date support run with Little Mix. Their follow-up release, "Time of Our Lives," arrived in September 2013 accompanied by a music video filmed in Ibiza; the single entered the Top 40 at number 33.
