Formed in 1994, the French-Canadian punk rock outfit Reset moved more than two thousand copies of its opening cassette, Concern, during 1997 by hawking the release directly from stages. At the time the band operated without major-label support, possessed scant recognition outside Montreal’s North Shore, and counted no member old enough to drink legally. That combination of persistence and unpolished ability drew the notice of Greenland Productions’ 2112 Records, which promptly offered the quartet a contract. Founding members Pierre Bouvier, J.S. Boileau, Chuck Comeau, and Phil Jollicoeur tracked their first full-length album, No Worries, the same year. After a stretch of road work that included a slot on the Vans Warped Tour, the group reentered the studio in the middle of 1998 to begin its follow-up, No Limits, under Canadian producer Greg Reely, whose résumé already included Fear Factory and Sarah McLachlan. Before the sessions ended, drummer Chuck Comeau and bassist J.S. Boileau departed; Adrian White took over the drum chair. No Limits reached stores in 1999. Bouvier and Comeau would later reappear as members of the hugely popular pop-punk group Simple Plan.
