Christian rock pioneers the Resurrection Band emerged in the early 1970s as an outgrowth of the Jesus People USA revival then spreading across the West Coast. Its lineup featured vocalists Glenn and Wendi Kaiser alongside guitarist/keyboardist Stu Heiss, bassist Roy Montroy, and drummer John Herrin. Also known simply as Rez, the ensemble issued its first recording, Music to Raise the Dead, in 1974 and released All Your Life later the same year. Following a four-year break, the group resurfaced with Awaiting Your Reply and entered an especially productive stretch that yielded a new album nearly every year into the middle of the 1980s. The 1988 release Silence Screams marked the launch of the band’s own imprint, Grrr Records. Subsequent studio efforts included Innocent Blood (1989), Civil Rites (1991), and Reach of Love (1993), along with the 1995 concept album Lament, which incorporated creative contributions from King’s X’s Ty Tabor. After concluding the Lament tour, the Resurrection Band declared its breakup, yet returned to the studio in 1997 for the all-acoustic album Ampendectomy. A final show took place in July 2000, though the members have reunited for sporadic concerts in the years since.
