Emerging from East London’s Upper Clapton district, British rapper Rimzee introduced himself to U.K. audiences through his debut mixtape The Upper Clapton Dream, chronicling the city’s harsher realities. Extended legal troubles sidelined his recording career for years, yet he reasserted his presence in 2020 via the follow-up project The Upper Clapton Dream 2.

Ricardo Miles, raised by a single mother of five in E5’s Upper Clapton, channeled those early hardships into music released under the name Rimzee. After sharpening his craft through repeated freestyles, he first drew widespread notice with “2010 FREESTYLE,” a sequence of street-level declarations delivered in his signature unforced style. In the years that followed, he secured his position within British rap via “Here I Am” (2011), an extravagant declaration of self, “I'm On” (2011), which supplied “real rap” accounts of luxury, and “Hometown” (2012), a raw tribute to his demanding environment. These tracks led to the 2012 release of The Upper Clapton Dream, a collection marked by audacious boasts, reflective storytelling, and unfiltered self-examination.

Momentum was abruptly halted by weapons charges that resulted in a 13-year prison term shortly after the mixtape appeared. Following his release in late 2019 after six-and-a-half years incarcerated, Rimzee resumed activity with the singles “Go Time,” “2 Do 1,” “Down Below,” and “Rapper Trapper.” Blending trap production with the robust delivery and assertive lyricism of his earlier work, the new material incorporated contemporary rap textures. A “2020 Freestyle” preceded further exposure on the platforms Voice of the Streets, Tim Westwood, and Daily Duppy, setting the stage for his second mixtape. Issued in December 2020, The Upper Clapton Dream 2 integrated updated sonic elements and deeper self-reflection into his established approach.
