Biography
In 1989, guitarist Vivian Campbell entered the ranks of Riverdogs shortly after his 1988 dismissal from Whitesnake. Although he had first been slated to produce the Los Angeles hard rock outfit, Campbell integrated himself into the lineup—vocalist/guitarist Rob Lamothe and bassist Nick Brophy—while tracking their self-titled 1990 album; drummer Marc Danzeisen enlisted once those sessions concluded.
Issued by Epic in 1990, the record made little commercial headway, and Campbell was soon tapped to replace the late Steve Clark in Def Leppard. Danzeisen exited soon after, prompting Brophy to shift to guitar while he and Lamothe enlisted bassist Cary Beare and drummer Ronnie Ciago to sustain the band. Absolutely Live and Bone surfaced in Europe in 1993 before Riverdogs dissolved through the second half of the 1990s.
A 2003 reunion attempt yielded several new recordings, yet the effort collapsed without completing the material. When MelodicRock Records proposed issuing those 2003 tracks in 2010, the group opted for a full reunion anchored by Campbell, Lamothe, Brophy, and Danzeisen. They completed World Gone Wild, drawing on songs from the shelved 2003 sessions, and resumed live work; from that juncture forward Riverdogs maintained a steady touring regimen and delivered their fourth studio album, California, in 2017.
