Roberto Prosseda, born in 1975 in Latina, Italy, emerged as a pianist and musicologist whose research has brought renewed attention to overlooked Romantic-era compositions. A dedicated recording artist, he has documented the full piano output of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Petrassi, and Dallapiccola. He started playing as a child, composing his earliest piano pieces at age four and beginning formal lessons near 1981. Between 1985 and 1994 he trained under Ann Maria Martinelli at the Conservatorio Ottorino Respighi, after which he continued his studies in Imola at the Accademia Pianistica with Franco Scala, Alexander Lonquich, and Boris Petrushansky. Additional refinement came at the International Piano Foundation through instruction from Dmitry Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, and other mentors.

His first commercial recording, issued in 2000, presented Goffredo Petrassi: Complete Piano Works and reflected an early commitment to neglected repertoire. Subsequent releases included Luigi Dallapiccola: Complete Piano Works in 2003, Mendelssohn Discoveries: Rare Piano Works in 2006, and the 2007 album Mendelssohn Rarities. In 2009 he established the Mendelssohn Association to pursue further discoveries of the composer’s unpublished scores and issued the initial recording of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Shifting focus in 2011, Prosseda adopted the pedal piano for modern premieres of pieces by Charles Gounod, Charles-Valentin Alkan, and various living composers. He released Romantic Piano Concerto, Vol. 62: Gounod - The Complete Works for Pedal Piano & Orchestra in 2013 and Mendelssohn: Complete Piano Works in 2017, while also contributing to additional recordings of Mozart, Gounod, and Mendelssohn throughout the decade. Later projects featured Mendelssohn: Violin Sonatas, Ennio Moriccone: Piano Music, and the 2023 release Mozart: Complete Piano Variations. He lives in Italy with his wife, Alessandra Ammara, and the two perform together as the Ammara & Prosseda piano duo.
