Biography
From Copenhagen, Denmark, Robin Hannibal operated as a restlessly inventive multi-instrumentalist and producer throughout the 2000s and early 2010s. He functioned as the central creative force within Boom Clap Bachelors and the duos Parallel Dance Ensemble, Owusu & Hannibal, and Quadron. Depending on the track, his productions ranged across abstract hip-hop or R&B, downbeat electronic, left-field house, and retro soul, sometimes merging several of those approaches at once. A lilting melody usually surfaced in the arrangements, performed either by longtime collaborator Jessica Hansell (aka Coco Malaika, Coco O.) or by Hannibal himself. Only in 2011 did he issue his first solo material, the five-track EP Bobby on the Plug Research label. Apart from drums on one track and piano on another, he performed every instrument while also writing, arranging, and producing the entire recording.
