S-X, a British producer, singer, and songwriter, spent his early career creating music for others before stepping forward as a performer in 2017 with several singles that merged pop, rap, and R&B through memorable hooks. His first mixtape, Reasons, surfaced in 2018, followed by three additional mixtapes ahead of his debut full-length album, things change, in 2022. His second album, Anywhere But Here, appeared in late 2023.

Born and raised in Wolverhampton, England, Sam Gumbley—professionally known as S-X—developed an interest in music during his early teens, beginning with drums before turning to production. His initial release, the 2010 instrumental “Woooo,” caught on within the U.K. grime scene and later underpinned D Double E’s “Bad 2 Tha Bone.”

The producer’s signature blend of trap rhythms, pop melodies, and R&B quickly drew demand, resulting in work with Chip, Skepta, Childish Gambino, and Lil Wayne over the ensuing years. While continuing to produce for other artists, he also began issuing his own recordings and, in 2017, took the lead on his material. A handful of singles preceded the arrival of the EP House Clothes that year.

Two mixtapes arrived in 2018—Reasons and Temporary—both featuring contributions from Lily Allen and JME. The following year marked S-X’s first collaboration with social-media personality and rapper KSI. Their track “Down Like That,” which also included Rick Ross and Lil Baby, entered the U.K. Top Ten and initiated an ongoing partnership. Also in 2019, S-X released his third mixtape, True Colours, containing the songs “Too Soon” and “Always Wrong.”

Over the next two years he completed his fourth mixtape, A Repeat Wouldn't Go a Miss, while handling songwriting and production duties on KSI’s 2021 sophomore album, All Over the Place. In 2022 he prepared things change, his first proper album, with “locked out” featuring KSI and “all night” featuring Trippie Redd issued in advance. New material emerged toward the end of 2023 ahead of the release of his sophomore album, Anywhere But Here.
