Yungen, an MC from South London, crafts his verses with straightforward candor, blending tales drawn from urban environments alongside personal reflections on existence. Comparable to fellow figures in the London rap community, he took up songwriting while still young. What began strictly as a private means of expression slowly drew wider attention. His first mixtape, The New Era Project, appeared on an independent basis in 2009. Momentum arrived only with the 2014 release of his debut album Project Black & Red. That project earned him a Best Newcomer nomination at the MOBO Awards 2015, after which he secured his initial recording contract with Sony RCA. Early 2016 brought a spot on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s One to Watch shortlist, signaling the start of a pivotal year. During the same period he entered a prolonged exchange of diss tracks with North London rap artist Chip, previously known as Chipmunk. The back-and-forth unfolded across several months as each released successive recordings and videos that intensified the conflict, eventually reaching U.K. Channel 4 news coverage. In 2017 he dropped multiple singles, among them “Chosen” and “All Night” with Mr. Eazi. Early the following year he collaborated with vocalist Jess Glynne on “Mind on It.”
