Biography
Saeed Younan built a devoted following in the underground global dance community through his work as a seasoned producer, remixer, and club DJ. He crafts tracks with meticulous detail and a sharp instinct for dramatic builds, drawing worldwide listeners by weaving techno, house, and tribal rhythms into seamless blends marked by his own enduring signature.
Born in Iraq, Younan relocated to Washington, D.C., at thirteen amid the aftermath of the Dischord punk movement and soon pursued an unconventional musical path. During high school he absorbed electro influences from classmate Sharam Tayebi, who later formed the duo Deep Dish. In 1994 he joined forces with Palash Ahmed at college to launch the Addictive Records label, and the pair quickly established themselves as an internationally touring DJ team. Their debut track earned placement on a Danny Tenaglia compilation for DJ Magazine. After issuing a series of remixes—Peter Bailey’s “U Need It,” Marc Romboy’s “Hyper Harmonic,” and Kylie Minogue’s “In Your Eyes”—the duo shut down the imprint and parted ways in 2003 on favorable terms, shortly after their version of Celeda’s “The Underground” reached the top of the Billboard dance charts. Younan reinforced his standing as a producer by receiving the Dancestar award for Best Breakthrough DJ in recognition of his Addictive Beats mix. He then founded Younan Music, one of the earliest digital-only imprints devoted to releasing mixes solely in MP3 format. In 2006 the label issued singles by Alex Celler, Souther Brothers, DJ Wady, Tom Sawyer, and DJ Moffy, and Star 69 put out the retrospective collection Re-Mixed, which gathered his full body of remix and production work.
