Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and later based in Nashville, the alt-pop outfit SafetySuit combines expansive stadium anthems with introspective ballads. Their first major-label project, the 2008 album Life Left to Go, generated initial attention, yet the group’s profile surged in 2012 after releasing the romantic single “Never Stop [Wedding Version],” which soon became a preferred choice for first dances at celebrity weddings. Additional tracks later surfaced in series such as The Hills, Kyle XY, and Imaginary Mary.

The band originally performed as Crew, with singer and guitarist Doug Brown, drummer Tate Cunningham, and bassist Jeremy Henshaw among its members at the outset. An impromptu entry into a local Oklahoma talent contest delivered their earliest recognition. Within the following year the group decided to relocate, choosing Nashville over more typical rock destinations because of the city’s wide-ranging musical environment. By summer 2005 they had completed an EP and were performing live two or three nights weekly. A Universal contract followed; after guitarist Dave Garofalo joined, the band finished and issued Life Left to Go in 2008. Billboard chart placement arrived the next year, aided by further television placements in The Hills and Kyle XY.

Recording for a second album began in 2010, but discarded sessions and label changes produced repeated delays. Singles from the project started appearing in 2011, and early 2012 finally saw the release of These Times, which debuted at number seven on the Billboard album chart and supported an extensive tour. Also in 2012 the band issued a four-song EP that included a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” together with “Never Stop.” June 2013 social-media posts announced work on a third album; six months later the single “On Your Side” appeared, yet the full project remained unreleased. November 2016 brought the self-titled SafetySuit on the group’s own Arena Complex label, which reached number eight on the independent albums chart. The You Are the Perfect Color EP followed in 2017, and the single “FEELS” arrived in 2018.
